Since I’ve had a few requests, I decided to cover some of the basics for 3D modeling.

If you are an advanced user, you might find that you already know all of this, but I recommend to watch at least the “More than one way to skin a cat” video – it might give you some ideas to use in your workflow.

In these videos I cover my most used poly and spline modeling tools, modifiers, subdivision modeling basics and basic modeling concepts.

All of this is basic knowledge that will be useful for any 3D package, not just 3D max.

Basically it’s all about understanding how the Turbosmooth (or Meshsmooth) modifier works – how the low poly mesh is averaged and a high poly model created.

Once you know how to create control edges for shape fine tuning, it becomes much easier.
